How do you take your CBD?

There are, after all, several different methods of administration. From softgels or capsules that can be taken just like a regular supplement to edibles of all different kinds, as well as tinctures (drops) placed under the tongue, several topical options, vaping and even suppositories, the ways to take CBD are aplenty.

Seeing that CBD can benefit pretty much everyone, it’s good to have options. For those who can’t swallow a pill, taking a tincture might be an option. Parents who give their children CBD might find that giving them gummies works much better than any other form of administration.

Of all the various methods of CBD administration, CBD tinctures are one of the most popular.

What Is a CBD Tincture?

A CBD tincture, which can also be referred to as CBD drops, is a cannabidiol-infused liquid that is typically taken sublingually (under the tongue). CBD tinctures are concentrated and intended to be taken in small doses. Most CBD tinctures on the market come with a dropper that allows the consumer to take measured dosages.

Taking a CBD Tincture

There are a couple of different ways to take CBD tinctures. Here we’ll discuss both, so you know which route might be best for your personal needs.

The most common way to take CBD tinctures is sublingually. To do so, simply measure out the desired dose you wish to take in the dropper, place under the tongue and let it sit for about a minute, then swallow.

When taken sublingually, CBD oil is absorbed by the mucous membranes, where it then moves directly into the bloodstream. CBD oil taken sublingually offer one of the most rapid methods of delivery because it does not have to move through the digestive tract and liver before making its way into the bloodstream. While CBD works different for everyone, on average it takes about 20-30 minutes to feel the effects of taking a CBD tincture.

Added to Food or Drinks

While CBD tinctures are typically taken sublingually, these drops are actually quite versatile when it comes to how they can be taken. Don’t want to take CBD drops under your tongue? No problem. CBD tinctures can be added to soups, stews, smoothies and more if taking CBD in food is more your thing. CBD tinctures can also be added to your morning or afternoon coffee and can be a great addition to an evening cup of relaxing herbal tea (where you’ll get an extra kick of mellow thanks to the properties of both the tea and the CBD).

Keep in mind that adding CBD drops to your food and taking them orally will take longer to feel the desired effects than taking them sublingually. This is because CBD that is taken orally must pass through both the digestive tract and liver before it makes its way into the bloodstream and begins to do its thing. If you decide to take a CBD tincture with food like this, expect it to take at least an hour until you feel any effects.

How Are CBD Tinctures Made?

Like most other CBD products, CBD starts out as a mature hemp plant that is harvested and then processed to extract the cannabinoid-rich oil. The two most common extraction methods include:

  • CO2 Extraction (highly pressurized carbon dioxide under a low temperature is used to pull CBD and other compounds out of the hemp plant)
  • Ethanol Extraction (where hemp is added to ethyl or isopropyl to pull the CBD and other compounds out of the plant)

The result of both extraction methods is a thick, gooey substance rich in CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes.

From here, the oil is then mixed into a carrier oil such as MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil from coconut or hemp seeds. Our CBD tincture, for example, is made from MCT and/or hempseed oil and/or grapeseed oil.

While we do carry a CBD tincture without flavor, we’ve found that not everyone likes this “natural” taste, which is why we also add orange, lemon or peppermint essential oil for added flavor options. This is something common throughout the industry, with CBD tinctures available in several different flavors.

The Pros and Cons of CBD Tinctures

CBD works differently for everyone, and depending on who’s taking it, there are both pros and cons to CBD tinctures. Some of the advantages and possible disadvantages of taking a CBD tincture include:

  • Compared to other forms of CBD administration, a CBD tincture works relatively quickly. It is the second-fastest method of delivery next to vaping and can be taken by virtually anyone.
  • CBD tinctures can easily be mixed with food or beverages if taking sublingually is undesired.
  • CBD tinctures are easy to administer and, when used with a dropper, offer an easy way to get exactly the dosage you desire. Want to control your dosage? Simply increase or decrease the number of drops you take.

  • For those who have difficulty swallowing, tinctures aren’t likely the best form of administration.
  • CBD tinctures were not designed to be vaped. Not only do tinctures not burn well, but they create a thick smoke that can be especially harsh on the lungs. If you’re interested in vaping CBD, you must use a CBD vape oil specifically designed for vaping.

Final Thoughts on CBD Tinctures

With the plethora of CBD products to choose from, we hope this helped clear up any confusion and answered any questions you might have had about CBD tinctures. As one of the most popular ways to take CBD oil, CBD tinctures are available in several different strengths, sizes and flavors.

No matter what your reason for using CBD, tinctures offer an easy way to take it and work more quickly than most other options. When taken sublingually, CBD bypasses the digestive tract and liver completely, which not only speeds up how quickly you feel the effects, but also offers a higher bioavailability (the degree and rate in which CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream) than when taken orally.

While CBD tinctures might not be for everyone, they are one of the easiest and most effective ways to get your daily dose of the extremely beneficial cannabinoid.

Joy’s processes ensure that her products provide an effective solution while remaining at an affordable price point.

Each of our hemp oil droplets is between 4 to 200 times smaller than the industry standard. This means that they’re more easily absorbed into the blood whether consumed orally or applied to the skin.

Our solution was to create a water-soluble nanoemulsion technology. This patent-pending technology transforms active compounds into nano-sized emulsions.

Our highly bioavailable products are not only extremely effective, they’re also extremely economical. You’ll get the same results from a much smaller amount of what we create than you would from our competitors. This is better for you and your wallet.

Joy is a wife, mom and grandmother. As a self-proclaimed “health nut”, her story begins in a place that many of us know very well – persistent pain and trouble sleeping.

While researching natural solutions, Joy learned of the benefits of CBD and began trying the top brands.

What she found was distressing: only one of the seven biggest CBD oil brands gave her the relief she desired.

After more research, the answer became obvious. Today’s CBD oil industry is a mess. There is minimal government oversight. No enforcement of false label claims and a huge variety of ineffective extraction and delivery methods.

As Joy’s frustration grew, so did her passion for creating a product people could trust. She then put together her team to create the most pure, organic, and bioavailable THC-free full spectrum hemp oil on the market.
