It’s no secret that CBD has become one of the most popular health products pretty much ever. Some would even say the non-psychoactive cannabinoid has hit celebrity status. Between 2017 and 2018, the U.S. hemp-derived CBD market nearly doubled in size…and it’s projected to just keep getting bigger. Try something to the tune of being worth $22 billion by 2022.
Celebrities are no strangers to the trendiest items to hit the mainstream, and CBD is no exception. The list of celebs who swear by CBD is long and includes everyone from actors and models to talk show hosts, comedians and professional athletes.
Why are celebs celebrating CBD?
For many of the same reasons as people in the mainstream — how it helps chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety and more. Who are the celebs that swear by CBD oil? Let’s take a look.
7 Celebs Who Swear by CBD
1. Jennifer Aniston
When Jennifer Aniston endorses something, the world tends to take notice. Really, who could forget that famous haircut? Open up any women’s magazine and you’re likely to see her face within the first few pages on some ad for something. She was named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People Magazine in 2016, she’s had an extremely successful career and is one of the richest women in Hollywood.
She also swears by CBD.
All the fame and fortune Aniston has experienced comes with a price. She’s openly blamed the media for making her feel like “an insecure girl” regarding her looks. In an open letter to the Huffington Post, Aniston explained it like this:
“The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing. The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”
Why is the former Friends star such a big fan of the non-psychoactive cannabinoid? “CBD helps with pain, stress, and anxiety,” she told US. “It has all the health benefits of marijuana without the high.”
2. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg loves CBD so much that she started a cannabis company that carries her name. The actress, comedian, author and television host, who has been nominated for 13 Emmy Awards and won her first Golden Globe Award for her role in The Color Purple, has always been an outspoken advocate for marijuana legalization.
In 2016, Goldberg and business partner Maya Elisabeth (a cannabis business veteran and founder of Om Edibles, which has won 7 High Times Cannabis Cup awards) launched their line of women-focused products aimed at helping to relieve period pain.
Maya & Whoopi products are all designed with women in mind as a natural way to relieve period pain, nerve pain, menstrual cramps and other issues women getting older face. The company is aimed at middle-aged women, a demographic that can certainly enjoy the benefits of cannabis but doesn’t necessarily enjoy the high. Many of the products do contain THC, but there are options without it as well.
3. Alessandra Ambrosio
This Brazilian supermodel is best known for being a long-time Victoria’s Secret model. This drop-dead gorgeous gal, who has ranked on the Forbes’ list of highest-paid women in the modeling industry, once shared her secret for preparing mind, body and soul for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“The most important thing to do [to prep for the Victoria’s Secret Show] is to sleep eight hours the night before,” she said. “It’s hard because the mind gets anxious, so I try CBD oil and I think it helps.”
Ambrosio (and countless other individuals) is on to something. Research does indicate that CBD has “considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders,” after all. This supermodel celeb who swears by CBD has found success with the non-psychoactive cannabinoid’s ability to calm her stress before participating in one of the biggest fashion shows in the world.
4. Montel Williams
In 1999, famous talk show host Montel Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic (typically progressive) disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Since his diagnosis, Williams has become an outspoken medical cannabis consumer and has advocated for both CBD- and THC-based therapies for years.
One thing Williams suffered from after his diagnosis of MS was depression. At one point his depression became so overwhelming that he tried jumping in front of a taxi in an attempt to take his own life. Soon after, Williams started using CBD to mitigate his pain and mood. It worked so well that he now believes it helps him to better manage his day-to-day life.
Williams recently started his own brand of CBD products. According to Williams, “My brand is the culmination of my experience with cannabis and hemp-derived CBD over decades.”
Williams says that he views hemp-derived CBD as a potential bridge towards increased cannabis acceptance amongst the confusing state regulations about THC ratios.
“We’re in this ridiculous never-never land in America when it comes to cannabis regulations. It’s gotten so ridiculous it’s almost impossible to navigate,” said Williams. “But at the same time, there are patients out there suffering, and we know there is some relief that can be had with CBD. It’s like during flu season, some people take zinc pills, some people take vitamin C. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be adding CBD to your daily holistic program.”
5. Morgan Freeman
Who doesn’t love Morgan Freeman? He has one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood, not to mention that classic, calm demeanor dripping in Hollywood cool. This is one Hollywood star who has stolen the hearts of many a fan during his lifework.
Freeman, like many other actors, has long been an advocate for the legalization of marijuana. The famous actor turned to medical cannabis after an almost fatal car accident he suffered in 2008. When he recovered, he developed fibromyalgia.
“I have fibromyalgia pain in my arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana,” says Freeman. “They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life.”
Freeman, who regularly uses CBD for its natural pain-relieving effects, also uses THC for pain relief as well.
6. Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore recently spoke to Coveteur while getting ready for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, where she opened up to the lifestyle publication about what was referred to as “perhaps her best beauty secret of the night.”
“This year,” said the singer-songwriter and actress, “I’m trying some CBD oil on my feet, which my stylist recommended. I asked her if there was some kind of numbing cream…I could be floating this year!”
7. Olivia Wilde
Actress, activist, model and producer Olivia Wilde lives a full life playing several different roles. In 2017, Wilde made her Broadway debut, where she played the role of Julia in 1984. She recently sat down with the New York Times to speak about her personal wellness and beauty routine. After talking about her skincare regime, Wilde had the following to say about CBD:
“Another thing I’m a huge believer in, in terms of body care: I’ve been using this body lotion that has CBD…Recently, I did a play on Broadway for six months, and my body was wrecked. My neck was really tight. The CBD has relaxing benefits, and the idea is to avoid using too many painkillers.”
Celebrity Treatment of CBD
Celebs have always been the leaders of all things trending, so it’s really no surprise that they’re embracing CBD. The thing is, CBD is much more than a trend embraced by the biggest names in Hollywood. It’s more of a movement that’s taken the world by storm that’s proving to be beneficial for just about every health condition under the sun. It’s no wonder so many celebs swear by CBD. The non-psychoactive cannabinoid really has become “the next big thing.”
