How to Boost Your Physical Wellbeing

How to Boost Your Physical Wellbeing

General Takeaways

  • There are several ways to boost your physical wellbeing.
  • What we eat has a huge effect on how we feel physically.
  • Keeping active is essential for physical wellbeing.
  • Mental and physical health are connected, with each dramatically affecting the other.

If you’re not feeling quite as physically robust as you’d like, there are plenty of ways to boost your physical wellbeing. Being mindful about what you eat, getting enough sleep, and making sure you’re staying active are all ways to help maintain optimal physical health.

Did you know that taking care of your physical wellbeing also does wonders to improve your mental wellbeing? The mind and body are intricately connected, and when you begin to take the steps to boost your physical wellbeing, you’ll automatically experience increased mental wellbeing as well.

Keep in mind that you’re the one responsible for how you feel. The choices you make each day affect you both physically and mentally. If you’re interested in taking control of your physical wellbeing, read on to discover some of the best possible ways to do so.

5 Ways to Boost Your Physical Wellbeing

1. Eat a Wholesome, Balance Diet.

Ever notice that when you eat like crap you feel the same? That’s because what we eat has a direct correlation with how we feel, both mentally and physically. The foods we eat are deeply connected to the physical wellbeing we experience. It’s impossible to thrive when we don’t feed ourselves the foods that allow us to do so.

If you’re interested in boosting your physical wellbeing, going on a “diet” isn’t necessarily going to help. Fad diets might create short-term benefits but do nothing for wellbeing in the long term. One of the best ways to take care of your physical health is to eat the foods abundantly provided by nature. With our busy lifestyles, it’s really easy to forgo eating well and eat for convenience instead. Grabbing a croissant or breakfast sandwich on the way to work with a cup of coffee is easy, right? The problem is, doing so does nothing to benefit your physical wellbeing.

When it comes to the foods we eat, we have choices. Eating a wholesome, well-balanced diet isn’t about dieting at all. It’s about making the conscious choice to feed our bodies what they need to thrive. Forget about focusing on calories and focus instead on the nutrients you take in.

Changing your eating habits isn’t easy; however, it is possible. The following are a few tips that can help you make the conscious choice to switch up your eating habits and significantly boost your physical wellbeing.

  • Stop Drinking Sugar-Laden Beverages: Half of all Americans drink soda every day, with the average U.S. citizen consuming some 45 gallons of soda each year. Yikes! If you’re one of them, consider replacing your soda, sweetened iced-tea, or other sugary drinks with something unsweetened instead. Consider sparkling water with lemon or lime, infused waters, or unsweetened beverages instead. It might take a moment to make the switch, but considering the health problems associated with sugary drinks, your physical wellbeing will thank you for it.
  • Ditch Processed Foods for Wholesome Goodness: Were you aware that processed foods make up more than 60% of the foods available for purchase in most U.S. grocery stores? Sure, they’re hard to get away from, but not impossible. Remember, eating healthy is a conscious decision. Choose to forgo the processed foods you might be accustomed to consuming, and replace them with fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins. Processed foods are full of fake ingredients and empty calories, and truly do nothing for your physical wellbeing. If you’re serious about taking care of your physical health, toss the processed foods and take control of your health with the wholesome foods that work with your body instead of against it.
  • Embrace Smart Snacking: Snacking on “snack foods” might make you feel better when you get the urge for a small bite throughout the day, but doing so does nothing to enhance physical wellness. Most snack foods are processed, meaning they’re full of empty calories and not exactly the most nutritious option you can opt for. Smart snacking eases those mid-day hunger pains or midnight munchies, but in a much more conducive way to your physical health. Consider replacing the cookies and popcorn with nuts, fruits, and veggies. Carrot and celery sticks dipped in hummus, almonds, and nut butters with apples are far better snacks for your physical and mental health than any processed snacks will ever be.

2. Get Regular Physical Activity

Were you aware that the average modern American spends more time sitting than any other time in history? True story. The typical office worker spends up to 15 hours a day sitting down.

Needless to say, physical activity is vital for your physical wellbeing. We get it, though. If you’re working 40+ hours a week and taking care of the other countless demands life tends to throw our way, working out regularly can seem impossible. Our advice? Start slow. Even getting in 20 minutes of exercise a few days a week can do wonders for your physical wellbeing. Consider a low-impact workout to start your day or even a brisk 15-20-minute walk around the block.

While working out regularly can immensely help you boost your physical wellbeing, so can engaging in simple activities that keep you active throughout the day. Take the stairs when you can. Park a couple blocks away from the office and walk the rest of the way. Use your lunch break to get in a good walk or 30 minutes of exercise. Take regular breaks at your desk to stand up and stretch.

Being physically active will do wonders for your physical wellbeing. You don’t have to rush weights at your local CrossFit gym or work out intensely seven days a week, either. Small, simple changes to your level of physical activity can lead to significant changes in your physical wellbeing.

3. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

If you’re one of millions of Americans who don’t get the sleep they need, you know how detrimental it can be to your mental wellbeing. Aside from being cranky, irritable, and anxious, lack of sleep can seriously hinder your attention span and concentration levels and cause a serious disruption in your day-to-day life.

Needless to say, getting the sleep you need can be a huge boost to your physical wellbeing. If you’re someone who suffers from lack of sleep, making a few simple lifestyle changes can help. Avoiding caffeine after 12pm, sticking to a regular sleep schedule, and avoiding the use of electronics in the bedroom can also help. Consider turning your bedroom into a sleeping sanctuary, as experts agree the only things our bedrooms should be used for is sleep and sex.

We’ve personally found that regularly taking CBD has done wonders to promote a good night’s rest. It was one of the reasons Joy Organics co-founder Joy Smith turned to CBD in the first place. She found it worked so well, it’s one of the reasons Joy Organics was created!  Our CBD Softgels with Melatonin are specifically formulated with relaxation and restful sleep in mind.

4. Stay Hydrated

We all know water is essential for life, but that doesn’t mean we’re all drinking as much as we should be. Get this. Some 80% of working Americans don’t drink enough water each day. Are you one of them?

Considering that the body is made up of 60% water, it’s easy to see how drinking enough water is vital to your physical wellbeing. Have you ever stopped to wonder why, though? How exactly does staying hydrated and drinking enough water benefit one’s physical wellbeing? We’re glad you asked. Check it out.

  • Staying well hydrated helps regulate body temperature.
  • Water is an excellent digestive aid.
  • Drinking plenty of water helps to avoid constipation.
  • Water helps improve circulation by carrying nutrients and oxygen throughout the entire body.
  • Water is vital for eliminating waste through the body via perspiration, urination, and bowel movements.
  • Staying hydrated and drinking enough water each day helps keep you energized.
  • Drinking enough water helps to improve stamina, strength, and performance when engaged in physical exercise.

Just how much water should you be drinking each day? It’s a question with varied answers depending on who you ask. As a general rule, health experts advise drinking eight 8oz glasses of water per day. This equals out to roughly 2 liters or a half gallon. Everyone’s needs are different, but one thing is certain. Staying well hydrated and drinking enough water each day will offer a great boost to your physical wellbeing.

5. Keep Your Mental Health in Check

The mind/body connection is real. When our mental health suffers, so does our physical health and vice versa. Serious mental  health problems can reduce life expectancy by 10-20 years, something equal to or worse than being a heavy smoker.

There are countless studies that show just how connected our mental health is to our physical wellbeing. Your body responds to what you think and feel. Ever notice when your anxiety becomes elevated that you feel it physically as well? Anyone who’s ever had a panic attack can attest to the very real physical discomfort that overwhelming anxiety can induce.

If you want to boost your physical health, make sure to keep your mental health boosted as well. Incorporate ways to keep calm and do your best not to let life’s everyday stressors control your emotions. Maintain close connection with those you love and talk to a mental health professional if needed. Think about incorporating things into your life that promote a sense of calm such as meditation and yoga. One of our favorite ways to keep calm is by engaging in a relaxing, CBD-inspired yoga routine; we truly believe that CBD and yoga make the perfect pair.

Remember, your emotional health will thrive when your physical health is taken care of and vice-versa. Make sure to eat healthy foods that promote mental health, get plenty of sleep, and engage in regular physical exercise.
